Here is a look at a retired dog we have supported –
Pensions4paws is a registered charity in England and Wales No: 1161107
Dog A – A 7.5 year old GSD served for 5 years as a General Purpose and Tactical Firearms Dog.
Payment 1 – The dog was taken ill suddenly and was very unwell. A visit to the vet resulted in a blood test and it was found that Dog A was suffering from pancreatitis. An overnight stay at the vets was necessary.
Dog A was placed on fluids and pain relief medication. Following this a long course of antibiotics were prescribed.
Dog A also had a condition called 'DRY EYE' for which an ointment was prescribed for ongoing treatment for life.
p4p assisted the owner with a payment of £989.44
Payment 2 – The owners found a lump that was getting bigger on Dog A's ear. The vet recommended it was aspirated and sent off for further testing. The results came back and luckily it was benign. An operation to remove a small portion of the ear was performed.
Three checkups followed this and Dog A was, again, on the mend.

Dog B – A 13 year old Springer spaniel Brood Bitch/Drugs, Cash and Firearms search dog served for a decade.
Payment 1 – Due to Dog B's long working life and her advancing years this old lady has movement issues due to arthritis in her joints. Ongoing medication is given daily for life.
Dog B also suffers with urinary tract issues and is given daily medication for this. She has to take regular trips to the vet for checkups and to facilitate prescription of medications.
p4p assisted the owner with a payment of £428.38
Payment 2 – Unfortunately due to accidental ingestion of something she should not have had (as spaniels do). Dog B had to undergo an emergency operation to remove a foreign object from her digestive system. She had to remain at the vets for several days as she had some complications and suspected peritonitis. A full recovery was made and luckily the insurance covered some of the expense incurred.
