Fire Dogs (Hampshire and Buckinghamshire)
Pensions4Paws also support retired dogs from both the Fire Service and Specialist Search Teams (eg. USAR), across Thames Valley and Hampshire. Although a small dog section, they are extremely busy and cover a very large area. You can follow a lot of them on Twitter and Facebook. There are currently no retired fire dogs registered with us at the moment (as we sadly lost RFD Inca and RFD Saxon) but we look forward to introducing you to the different dogs.
Meet FD Huw.....(written by his handler, Alan Still)
Huw is a 17month old Chocolate Lab/Springer Cross.
We have been working together since May 2018 and will hopefully grade him May of this year.
He is one of a team of 20 dogs within the UK who are trained in casualty location in a collapsed building environment.
When he finds someone he is trained to bark until I can locate him and mark the area of interest.
These dogs were used at Didcot and at Bosley Mill in the effort to locate missing persons.
We are also hoping to use Huw for missing persons and wide area searches as well in the future.
This is my first working dog I have owned only previously having had Pet Dogs.
I've worked for bucks fire since 1990 initially as an on call Firefighter and then from 1995 as a Whole time firefighter.
Since 2010 I have also been part of the Urban Search and Rescue team based at Aylesbury.
Huw is part of that as every team has to have a search dog attached.
I am married to Alison and have two daughters Allana and Ellena
We also have another dog called Neo a Black and white springer.
